Want to ride to work, but the estuary is in the way?
Robert van de Walle, green entrepreneur and owner of Pegged! graphic
design is volunteering to operate a bicycle jitney for a day, to
transport you and your bike through the Webster and Posey Tubes. From
7am to 8:30am, and then from 4:30pm to 6pm, simply load up your bike
on the rack of his car and get shuttled past the fumes and avoid the
danger of riding the Tube.
Pick up and drop off:
Alameda: Marina Village Parkway and Constitution, the westernmost
corner of the Albertson's Shopping Center parking lot
Oakland: Harrison Railroad Park, Alice and 7th, near the small pagoda
Depending on traffic, wait times will be on the order of 10 to 15
minutes. On May17th, you can call (510) 388-7521 for details.

[Discuss Estuary Crossing] (no subject)
Lucy,
There are four pedestrian/bicycle lanes going through the tubes. As far as
I know, three of them are closed, making it hard to pass another person on a
bike in the remaining lane. What about at least dedicating two of them as
bike lanes, one in each direction, and leave the third for pedestrians?
They could also be walled off by a sheet of clear acrylic or polycarbonate
better yet, for noise dampening. That would be a short term, low cost fix
that would make it at least easier to go through the tubes on a bike.
